These folders embody old world craftsmanship that has a lifetime in use in mind. What this means is that the functionality and quality of the knife is certainly in place with that type of craftsmanship. There may be some intricacies such as the bolster and scale not seating 100% flush. There are some minor dings or scuffs present on the handles and you will find buffing compound across the knife. Again, this does nothing to affect the quality of this knife and is simply old world traditions where use and functionality took major priority over the final fit and finish. Shilin Cutters knives are handmade by a family member of the Chiu family. The history of these knives began their legacy in 19th Century China and were taught to a select few. Some of these makers migrated to Taiwan where they continued to produce these infamous knives. As time progressed, many of these makers ceased production and only two families in Taipei have been making these in recent times. Today, the doors of the house of Chiu are currently closed and it is unknown if they will reopen. These knives are the only ones we have been able to procure and sadly may be the end of a family legacy. Don't miss out on this opportunity to acquire one of these knives built by the Chiu Family. We were advised by a collector from Taiwan that these pieces are quite rare as they have stainless bolsters and were most likely salesman samples.
